The average blog has 100 readers

Back in February I said (in response to that truly stupid book Cult of the Amateur) "the average blog will have about four readers". It is coming true.

Those tireless analysers of the American, Pew, say that

8 million American adults say they have created blogs;
blog readership jumped 58% in 2004 and now stands at 27% of internet users;

As Problogger points out, 27% is 32 million Americans, and describes these numbers as

Interesting results that fit pretty well with the anecdotal evidence I collect from conversations here in Australia also

Funnily enough Problogger, a site that makes money from others' enthusiasm for blogging, overlooked the simple conclusion that 32 million people reading 8 million blogs makes for four readers for every blogger. OK I know readers don't only read one blog each. Let's say the average reader reads 25 blogs a week (Pew doesn't tell us). That's 100 weekly readers for the average blog. Hi folks!
