The latest IT fad: SRE

SRE is the latest IT fad. It's useful but not transformational.

Google's Site Reliability Engineering is a most interesting book with some useful ideas. But let's not overblow it.

SRE isn't a manual. It's a grab-bag of essays.

SRE isn't a framework of methodology. It's how one unicorn did it, which may or may not illuminate life for horses.

The word "site" in the name SRE is an accidental legacy which is irrelevant, redundant. Can we just call it Reliability Engineering which then allows us to see its context and place. It's a set of disciplines for being better at production operations, nothing more nothing less.
