Important ITIL certification news: APMG's accreditation by UKAS has been suspended

Can any reader offer something more substantial than speculation to explain why The APM Group has had their accreditation by the UK Accreditation Service suspended?

APMG are the accreditor of all examination bodies for ITIL (and Prince2 and ...). They have had their accreditation suspended in both categories:

  • Accredited to EN45011 General Requirements for bodies operating product certification systems
  • Accredited to EN45013 General Requirements for certification bodies operating certification of personnel OR Accredited to BS EN ISO/IEC 17024:2003 Conformity assessment - General requirements for bodies operating certification of persons

The APMG site seems to have no comment on this yet. It does say (under "Who regulates the regulator?")

This recognition by UKAS means that we have been judged against internationally recognised standards (EN45011 and ISO/IEC17024) that demonstrate the competence, impartiality and performance capability of our assessment processes. UKAS audits the APM Group yearly to ensure that these processes are fully in accordance with the standards against which we accredit and that we work in a consistent manner within these processes.
